When it comes to musical crushes, we won’t even bother crossing our legs to hide it – we have a massive girl boner for Daniel Avery. The young Brit’s debut album ‘Drone Logic’ is still heavily played on our iPod, simultaneously a titillating headphone-friendly album, while having us twitching to shake a leg on the dancefloor, as he evokes a kind of blistering sonic experience akin to the big room sounds of the Chemical Brothers. It’s music guaranteed to raise your pulse rate, but in a pleasant non-heart attack inducing way.
On the back of dominating 2013, Avery isn’t showing any signs of letting up in the first quarter of the year. The title track from his album will be released as a single on Erol Alkan’s Phantasy imprint, with a new remix of Factory Floor, while re-rubs of other album tracks ‘Need Electric’ (Audion remix) and ‘Free Floating’ (Matt Walsh) will complete the package.
To further add to our Avery fix, he’s locked and loaded for an Essential Mix to air on March 29.
So, when Tourist announced Daniel Avery was going to be playing their first event of 2014 on 8th March, it’s safe to say we’re a bit excited. Following the last two bookings of A Love From Outer Space and Optimo, Tourist are clearly keeping the bar high. After two stellar events at Think Tank Hoults Yard, Tourist have decided to move the party across the road to Warehouse 34 space: however, you can expect it to be nothing like a venue you’ve ever seen before as they’re hired a theatre company to completely change the space.
Avery will be joined by Tourist residents The Last Waltz. Comprising the DJs who brought the North East the legendary Dada parties, these guys have been released on a plethora of great labels such as Tusk, Let’s Play House, World Unknown, Future Boogie and more.
Head to The Tanners beforehand for a top Pre-Avery Warm Up from 8pm, where Tourist-Mag co-founder Mark Algar and We Love Space resident (often described as a true Balearic heartthrob) Ian Blevins will set the musical bar high for the rest of what looks to be a pretty epic event.
ANYWAY, the really sweet stuff is that Tourist is running a ‘Like’ & ‘Share’ competition that you should definitely try your chances at. All you have to do is ‘like’ the Tourist Facebook Page, then ‘Like’ & ‘Share’ this image to be in with a chance of winning the following:
