Fresh Meat #1: Gardens Of God

A new series where we pass on news of artists we’ve just discovered and why we want a piece of them…

While deep in conversation with the legendary Maceo Plex for another piece, he very generously gave me a hot tip to look out for: Gardens Of God, on Ellum Audio. Well, the second he mentioned this new artist was Lithuanian I was typing the name into Google – with Basanov being the only Lithuanian DJ and producer on our radar so far, this was an opportunity not to be missed.

With no RA page, only 114 Soundcloud followers and only 422 likes on Facebook (me being the 114th and 422nd respectively), Gardens Of God, known to his mum as Mindaugas Lapinskis,  is one of the freshest names around, and Balearic deep house at its finest. Here we give you a taster of the hat trick of gorgeous tracks from his forthcoming EP ‘Ys’, starting with the stellar ‘Are We’, featuring celestial vocals from Egle Sirvydyte.

A preview of the whole EP was uploaded on his Soundcloud last week:

But… since seventy seconds is nowhere near satisfying enough, luckily for us ‘Are We’ is now available in its entirety since just two days ago thanks to i-D Online:

Beneath ghostly gorgeous vocals lurks a walking bassline that you can expect to get stuck in your head for the rest of the day. Watch out for the breakdown 4:34 minutes in too which is deliciously satisfying and just gets better the more you listen to it… It’s been a while since we found a track so vocal-heavy that moved us this much which is a refreshing change! Expect whispery hi-hats and trippy synths – what more could you want?!

‘Are We’ will be released on Ellum Audio on February 17th (that’s 3 weeks and 4 days – not that we’re counting…) (Lydia)
